The Details

How we visit Hawai’i thoughtfully:

  • Supporting local businesses: We patronize small Hawai'ian businesses, rather than supporting large corporations. All of our optional excursions are with locally owned businesses, including Manta Ray diving with Kona Honu Divers and island-based local photographers. The accommodations that we recommend at the Kona Islander Inn are individually owned by Hawai'i residents, as well as rentals owned by locally based pole dancers, rather than big chain hotels.

  • Partnering with the Hawai’ian pole community: We are thrilled to partner with and rent all studio time from The Pod, Kona's only pole studio, which has deep roots in the community on the big island. We offer all open slots in our retreat workshops to Pole Hale instructors free of charge, because we believe in giving back to the local pole community who hosts us.

  • Respecting native culture and land: We ensure our attendees understand the importance of respecting the native Hawai'ian culture - including by not taking lava rocks or sand, using local place names, practicing Leave No Trace and avoiding contact with wildlife. We explain how to identify places that locals don't want tourists to go. We discuss how to be respectful with geotagging practices.
